Biography

Gabby Cameron, native of Raleigh, North Carolina, interprets the world through two modalities: her banjo and songwriting. Composing since age 7, her songs delve into the intricacies of storytelling, exploring how stories serve as the connective tissue of a uniquely human experience. Sonically traversing a multitude of musical styles, the three-finger banjoist incorporates elements of bluegrass, old-time, jazz, and classical music into her performance. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Ethnomusicology from the University of Maryland. Cameron's scholarly work garnered her the 2022 Neil Rosenberg Bluegrass Scholar Award from the International Bluegrass Music Association. In 2023, Cameron was invited to study under Béla Fleck at the Blue Ridge Banjo Camp in Brevard, NC. Cameron currently resides in Baltimore, MD.
